NERC funded studentships in the Quantitative and Modelling Skills in Ecology and Evolution CDT

Quantitative and Modelling Skills in Ecology and Evolution: A NERC Centre for Doctoral Training

The Quantitative and Modelling Skills in Ecology and Evolution (QMEE) CDT is pleased to announce the competition launch of 3 NERC-funded PhD studentships starting in October 2019.

The QMEE CDT will train a cohort of researchers in Ecology and Evolution with the quantitative and modelling skills to solve real-world problems by connecting theory, data, and practice.

Working in partnership

Two universities and three core public research organisations, together with a range of public and private sector partners, have come together to deliver an exciting new programme of training and research. You will work with world-leading researchers across multiple departments and institutions, as part of a cohort of students with a mix of backgrounds across various disciplines.

Research opportunities

With supervisors from multiple departments and/or institutions, you will develop your PhD project chosen from a wide range of topics and approaches, with an emphasis on new theory, models, computational or analytical methods and their applications. During the first 6 months you will develop core skills and try different techniques in order to prepare for and inform your PhD project.

Innovative training

You will develop state-of-the-art modelling and quantitative skills through an individually designed training plan, with access to a wide range of specialist courses. As part of multidisciplinary ‘tiger teams’, you will also apply your skills to real-world challenges, working with a range of partners across industry and policy sectors in order to increase your research impact and employability.

Studentship opportunities

To submit an application please search the list of available projects here and contact the project supervisor directly with your CV, a covering letter and the contact details of two academic referees.
