5 PhD CASE Studentships –Science & Engineering

EPSRC Industrial CASE Projects - £18,748 per year (plus additional industry funding

The Faculty of Science, Agriculture & Engineering – Newcastle University, are offering 5 fully funded Industrial Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering (CASE) PhD Studentship positions under the following projects:

CASE001: Investigation of control and on-line optimisation opportunities of a waste-water treatment plant (Northumbrian Water & School of Chemical Engineering & Advanced Materials)

CASE002: Next generation loop heat pipe wick technology for thermal management of Space and Terrestrial applications (Aavid Thermacore & School of Chemical Engineering & Advanced Materials)

CASE003: Multifunctional Mitochondrial Imaging Agents (High Force Research Ltd & School of Chemistry)

CASE004: Leakage Risks in CO2 Storage Reservoirs: Shale Petrophysics and Micromechanics (BP & School of Civil Engineering & Geosciences)

CASE005: Reducing the failure rate of hip replacements and the associated costs to the NHS (Zimmer Biomet Healthcare UK Ltd & School of Mechanical & Systems Engineering).

The studentship award will cover RCUK standard UK/EU tuition fees and a stipend of at least £14,553 per year. Each studentship position will be primarily based on the Newcastle University campus, provides a minimum of a 3 month industry based placement (accommodation & travel paid), and will be co-supervised by an industry sponsor. Postgraduate students are also enrolled in our Faculty Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme.

The projects are expected to start in October 2017.

The award is available to UK/EU applicants only. Depending on how you meet EPSRC’s eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to a fees-only award (partial funding) or fees and stipend award (full funding).
