Fulbright PhD Award University of South Florida

The US-UK Fulbright Commission is now accepting applications for its 2019-20 PhD Award at the University of South Florida. Application deadline: 5pm Tuesday, 6 November 2018.

One award will be offered to a qualified British graduate student to pursue a PhD at the University of South Florida (USF) in any of the following disciplines only:

• Applied Anthropology;
• Applied Physics;
• Cell, Micro, and Molecular Biology;
• Chemistry;
• Computer Science and Engineering;
• Criminology;
• Integrative Biology;
• Marine Science;
• Psychology (non-clinical)

USF is one of the largest public universities in the US. Located in Tampa Bay on the west coast of Florida, it has a student body of nearly 48,000 and a high impact global research focus.

The Fulbright PhD Award

The Fulbright PhD Award at the University of South Florida offers the following benefits:

• A grant of $18,000 for the first academic year, followed by a teaching/research assistantship of $18,000 per year for up to 3 additional years
• USF will waive all tuition fees for a period of up to 4 years
• Sickness and accident benefit coverage
• J-1 visa sponsorship and pre-departure support & orientation
• Support in the USA from the Institute of International Education (IIE)
• Access to a global alumni network of collaborative engagement and cultural diplomacy, with over 300,000 academically and professionally accomplished members

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must be a UK citizen and hold or expect to obtain a minimum 2:1* honours undergraduate degree or the equivalent prior to their anticipated enrolment with a US university. Those who hold US citizenship may not apply for a UK Postgraduate Award from the US-UK Fulbright Commission.

*We may accept applications from individuals with a 2:2 overall result in some exceptional cases. We will evaluate these applications separately and on a case by case basis will determine if the application will be included in the competition.
