PhD studentships in public and global health

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is delighted to be offering a number of exciting new scholarships in a range of subjects and topics for our PhD programmes starting September 2018.

Background

From global disease outbreaks to the rising burden of chronic conditions to threats from climate change: we constantly face major issues in global health. At LSHTM, we bring together a vast range of expertise in research, education and knowledge translation, so whether you are interested in medicine, lab science, public health, population studies or emerging diseases, our doctoral training programmes will prepare you to tackle present and future health challenges.

Current PhD funding

ESRC UCL, Bloomsbury and East London DTP Studentships

Overview: ESRC-funded partnership offering over 40 studentships in one of 25 pathways across its member institutions.

Themes: demography, health and wellbeing and quantitative social science, but potential applicants may awarded a studentship to do a PhD at LSHTM via one of the other pathways.

Eligibility: open to all UK applicants. Other applicants may be eligible if they meet specific residential criteria. EU students who do not meet these criteria are also eligible for fees only awards.

Deadline: 9 January 2018.

MRC London Intercollegiate DTP Studentships

Overview: doctoral studentships offered by LSHTM together with St George’s, University of London.

Themes: global infectious diseases, quantitative skills for large data sets, evaluation of complex interventions.

Eligibility: open to applicants who would be assessed to have UK/EU fee status, and who meet MRC’s residency requirements.

Deadline: 14 January 2018.

PhD studentships in public and global health

Alzheimer’s Society PhD Studentship on Infections, Diabetes and Dementia

Overview: This research degree will involve investigating the effect of infections on cognition and dementia in people with diabetes using large datasets of electronic health records.

Eligibility: open to applicants who would be assessed to have UK/EU fee status. Applicants must hold a 1st or 2.1 honours undergraduate degree, and preferably an MSc in epidemiology, medical statistics or equivalent, awarded with good grades.

Deadline: 16 January 2018.

BBSRC London Interdisciplinary Biosciences PhD Programme

Overview: an exciting collaboration between six of London’s world-class universities and specialist institutions, this programme provides students a unique opportunity to pursue innovative interdisciplinary lab-based research including rotations.

Eligibility: applicants must hold or be expected to achieve, a 1st or high 2.1 honours undergraduate degree or master’s in a relevant subject.

Deadline: 19 January 2018.
