The University of Huddersfield is pleased to offer a fully-funded PhD four year doctoral studentship commencing in October 2018 in a research area aligned to the Industrial Strategy. The studentship is renewable for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory annual performance and progression review, and will provide for tuition fees, a tax-free stipend (subject to annual increase) plus a travel/consumables budget for attendance at relevant conferences and training.

The projects available to apply for under this scheme are in the field of mathematical sciences, including theoretical aspects of data science.

*Please note that only one of the following two studentships is available. After a competitive application process including an interview, the most outstanding candidate will be offered one of the studentships below:

  • Mathematical Modelling of Coffee Brewing
  • Optical Nano and Micro Mass Spectroscopy

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants should hold or expect to obtain a First Class or Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • EPSRC funded studentships are open to applicants who are UK or EU citizens
  • If your first language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, will be considered acceptable, or equivalent.

  • Provide a current detailed CV, identifying any research employment or experience and, where applicable, details of research conference presentations or publications.
  • Provide copies of transcripts and certificates of all relevant academic and/or any professional qualifications.
