Politecnico di Milano is one of the most outstanding technical universities in Europe. Established 1863, it is the largest school of Architecture, Design and Engineering in Italy, with seven campuses in Milan and in other nearby Italian cities.

Academic Exellence

Politecnico di Milano has been ranked 1st university in Italy, 7th technical university in Europe and 24th technical university in the world by QS World University Rankings 2015/16. Furthermore, in 2014 the University received the Wharton-QS Stars Awards 2014: “Reimagine Education of the Nurturing Employability category, for having developed the best education system enhancing the employability of its graduate students in Engineering”.

Many important scientists and architects studied and taught at Politecnico di Milano. Among them, Gio Ponti, Renzo Piano and Aldo Rossi, both Pritzker Price in 1990 and 1998 respectively, as well as Giulio Natta, Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1963.

The university is based in Milano, in northern Italy, one of the largest economic and cultural centers in Europe, and known worldwide for its expertise in the fields of Fashion and Design. Throughout the last century, the Politecnico di Milano has become a central part of the city vibrant life, by taking part and organizing cultural events and building strong connections with the main local and international companies of Architecture, Design and Engineering.

Admission procedure

The selection call for all the PhD programmes is launched annually and published on the website. A five year university degree, equivalent to a Master qualification giving access to PhD programmes is required to be considered in the call. An experts panel selects candidates on the basis of their research project proposals, curriculum vitae, personal statement and recommendation letter(s).
