AHRC CHASE PhD Studentships

The Faculty of Arts is pleased to offer Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funding through the Consortium for Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE). CHASE is matching AHRC funding of £17m and will be awarding more than 375 AHRC-studentships over a five-year period. Up to 75 studentships (part-time or full-time) are available across the consortium for October 2017 entry.

CHASE AHRC studentships are available to UK and EU residents at the Open University in the Faculty's arts and humanities discipline areas. These include:

Art History
Classical Studies
Creative Writing
English
History
Music
Philosophy
Religious Studies

We particularly welcome proposals that integrate subject-based or interdisciplinary enquiry in the Arts and Humanities with the latest digital humanities methodologies and technologies.

Awards for UK residents include fees and stipend, while EU residents are eligible for fees only.

Faculty-funded Studentships

The university also has a number of faculty-funded studentships (fees and stipend at RCUK rates) for part-time and full-time students. All applicants will be considered for any available funding.

Doctoral Study in the Arts and Humanities at The Open University

The Open University is internationally recognized for innovative research across the Arts and Humanities, including the study of literary, philosophical and visual texts and their reception; the historical investigation of policing, science and religion; and the exploration of performance in music and drama. We host a number of major AHRC- and ESRC-funded research projects. We have a strong commitment to cross-disciplinary work, to national and international public engagement, and to creative partnerships with a range of cultural organisations.
