 Funded PhD Programme (Students Worldwide)

About the Programme

Applications are invited for a full-time, funded PhD scholarship in Social Policy (Childhood studies/ Education). The scholarship will be a part of the Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA) in Social Policy.

About the scholarship
The student will be based in the School of Education and Professional Development (SEPD) at the University of Huddersfield where they will undertake a PhD aligned to the Erasmus+ funded initiative ‘CyberSafe Generation: Digital Education by Design' (CyGen).

CyGen brings together children and teachers with academic partners in order to develop an evidence-based digital educational programme to promote young peoples' online participation. Working with partners in the UK, Denmark, Belgium and Greece, it aims to:

  •   - Map the challenges and opportunities facing children on their safe use of the Internet;
  •   - Create a co-designed multimedia education programme which draws on children's assets to support their online participation;
  •   - Develop guidance and training to enable teachers to use the programme with children in partner countries;
  •   - Work participatively with children to ensure a user-centred system, which supports children's digital engagement.

Candidates are invited to develop an area of research interest, explaining in their application how their proposed research will complement and add value to CyGen.

The School of Education and Professional Development
The student will join the Huddersfield Centre for Research in Education and Society (HudCRES). HudCRES offers a supportive and stimulating environment for postgraduate researchers. Our three research groups ‘Policy'; ‘Pedagogies' and ‘Professional Identities' ensure that staff, students and research collaborators are part of and contribute to a vibrant international community, addressing key research themes relevant to contemporary society.

The successful candidate will also receive additional training and skills development through the DTA scheme.

Supervisors
The supervisory team will comprise Professor Helen Lomax, (Principle Investigator for CyGen) and one or more academics with expertise relevant to the student's proposal.
