Join Brunel Anthropology team of internationally recognised researchers, producing ground-breaking work rooted in ethnographic fieldwork spanning Africa, Asia, Europe and Oceania.

Anthropological Research on Childhood Youth and Education

Gain a new, cross-cultural understanding of the notions of the ‘child’, ‘youth’ and ‘education’.

Culture and Evolution

Deep dive into the most fundamental and powerful influences on human behaviour, and their effects: from individual biological traits and personal beliefs, through dyadic processes and group dynamics, and on to broader issues of ecology, demography, and sociohistorical context.

Histories and Concepts of Anthropological Knowledge

Research historicity, emotion, ignorance, and memory, as well as the fundamentals of anthropology: ethnographic practice and writing.

Performance, Politics and Violence

Deep dive into areas such as symbolic, mystical, and structural violence, genocide and other forms of physical violence. Examine the spectrum of power in far-reaching State, international political control all the way to the micro-politics of everyday life.

Social Justice

Explore concepts of social justice and understanding of climate change, health and wellbeing, digitalisation, poverty, conflict and inequality.

Funding Notes

Brunel offers a number of funding options to research students that help cover the cost of their tuition fees, contribute to living expenses or both. The UK Government is also offering Doctoral Student Loans for eligible students, and there is some funding available through the Research Councils. Many of our international students benefit from funding provided by their governments or employers. Brunel alumni enjoy tuition fee discounts of 15%.
