Funded PhD Programme (European/UK Students Only)

About the Programme

The Department of Archaeology invites applications for PhD studentships through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership.

The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers high-quality supervision and exceptional resources, as well as the expertise of a broad portfolio of Strategic Partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers.

The awards cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance grant at the RCUK national rate for UK applicants. They cover tuition fees only for EU students, but if institutional funds permit, we also expect to make maintenance awards to EU students.

We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project.

The Northern Bridge DTP operates two funding schemes - Standard Route studentships, and Collaborative Doctoral Awards which involve collaboration with a partner organisation. Applicants should consult the Subject Area Contact [Dr Derek Kennet, derek.kennet@durham.ac.uk] to discuss their research proposal and potential supervisors for their project, or contact potential supervisors directly.

For further information about both schemes and detailed guidance notes, see http://www.northernbridge.ac.uk.
