About the Programme

Applications for full-time enrolment in the PhD programme in Economics are invited for entry in September 2020.

 

The Department of Economics at Royal Holloway is one of the top economics departments in the country with a wide range of expertise, including labour economics, development economics, microeconomic theory, and experimental economics. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), it has been ranked 9th in the UK in terms of world-leading and internationally excellent research.

The Department is home to about 30 research active staff and 30 PhD students from over 20 countries. It offers a stimulating research environment and a vibrant PhD programme with advanced economics training in the first year and a great placement record.


Royal Holloway is proud to be part of the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) in partnership with 10 other leading UK universities. SeNSS provides ESRC studentships for 1+3 (MSc+PhD) and +3 (PhD) funding options.


The deadline for applications to Royal Holloway is 14th of January 2020. Eligible applicants will then be contacted by the Department to work towards the SeNSS deadline of 3rd of February 2020.

Funding Notes

The Department of Economics has a limited number of College scholarships for Home/EU and international students. The funding package includes a £18,000 annual stipend (£14,000 maintenance plus £4,000 teaching assistantships) and full tuition fee waiver for 3 years. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and research potential. All unsuccessful SeNSS applicants will be considered for a College scholarship.
