About the Project

There have been growing interests in making cameras smarter beyond their original purposes for footage capturing and monitoring, using techniques from Artificial Intelligence (AI). The aim of this project is to develop advanced AI technologies to augment cameras. Concretely, it will develop AI technologies that are capable of accurate and timely prediction of an observed individual’s intention and complex meta-reasoning with the acquired observations from distributed cameras. This project will take surveillance cameras in train stations as an application. Beyond detecting human and objects surrounding from video footage, their spatial and temporal relationships will be further exploited. Based on recognized passengers’ behaviours and intentions, optimization strategies will be established to improve passengers’ travel experience.

North East England’s universities are joining forces under a £3.9m scheme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, to connect the region’s businesses with research to encourage growth & job creation. Teesside University is delighted to be able to offer a number of part funded industrial PhDs to eligible SMEs in the north east. This project is funded by the University & European Regional Development Funding & looks to support local firms with their research & development needs, developing new products & services in key sectors & creating high quality jobs in the local economy.
