About the Project

There is an ever-increasing amount of user feedback available online. Software users tweet about their frustrations, leave reviews in app stores detailing their opinions of the software, and more. However, software vendors are mostly ignoring this data for product development insights. The sheer volume of feedback makes it near impossible for a software development team to keep abreast of everything that users are saying about their products online. Some techniques exist to filter, summarize, and rank app store reviews and tweets about software products. However, no techniques exist to combine the data across many different sources to enable a more comprehensive understanding of user feedback.

This project will investigate how to integrate data across multiple sources. Each source of user feedback varies in its purpose, so the types of data available from each source will vary. Thus, collecting the right information from each source is important, and simply summarizing across all sources may miss key information. The project will use machine learning and natural language processing techniques to integrate user feedback across multiple sources to create new software requirements. This research will enable the automatic identification of detailed software requirements from online user feedback, leading to better software products that satisfy users.
