Resource-Based Life Course Pathways to Entrepreneur Earnings

This research proposes a life course framework to guide a new programme of research builds on recent employment of life course as a frame for researching how entrepreneurship emerges dynamically in relation to intersecting social domains and structures. The research will particularly draw on the considerable body of knowledge taking the resource-based view of entrepreneurship and theories of household strategies to propose specific life course pathways to entrepreneur earnings. Possible research questions are: (1) how capability to earn from entrepreneurship emerges from accrual of resources across the life course of the individual and their household, as this relates to the inter-generational transmission of resources; (2) how capacity to earn from entrepreneurship by applying resources to opportunity emerges from the entrepreneurs’ position in household work and economic strategies. To evaluate the influence of resource histories and household strategies on entrepreneur earnings across the business life course, longitudinal panel survey data is proposed.
