Mainstreaming Green Infrastructure into Planning Policy (Advert Reference: SF18/GES/SCOTT)

This project will undertake an assessment of local plans across England, Wales and Scotland drawing upon a methodology pioneered by Hislop and Scott 2018. This will provide an accurate assessment of how effective planning policy is at the present time across the devolved UK (including an assessment of national guidance) and enable a suite of model policies to be proposed. This is primarily a desk based study with all information available online. The idea is to cover ALL extant local plans

Using the model policies a set of case studies will be identified to track through what happens in reality and what are the benefits or otherwise of using the model policies. This will involve a combination of desk study and interviews with planning officers, developers and other third party interests. The work will also look at the development pipeline to cover areas of often missing research at the pre and post planning stages.

The student would also be able to benefit from my own work on green infrastructure which adds to merits of this PhD.

Please note eligibility requirement:

* Academic excellence of the proposed student i.e. 2:1 (or equivalent GPA from non-UK universities [preference for 1st class honours]); or a Masters (preference for Merit or above); or APEL evidence of substantial practitioner achievement.
* Appropriate IELTS score, if required
