  Prof K Jiang  Applications accepted all year round  Competition Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

The project is proposed to develop a new process for fabrication of 3 dimensional high precision silicon nitride and other ceramic components in centimeter size. We are currently looking for a PhD student to develop the process using new approaches.
The student will need to learn forming and sintering of ceramics on the basis developed in the group. The PhD research project will involve the following research areas:
• Preparation of ceramic slurries;
• Forming green complex 3D bodies using 3D printing and soft lithography processes;
• Sintering of green bodies;
• Characterisation of the 3D components.

The suitable candidate is expected to have a materials or mechanical engineering background. EU students are expected to have a first class degree in mechanical engineering to get a scholarship. Students with MSc in materials related area and publications are highly encouraged to apply. Self funded applicants are expected to have a first degree or equivalent.

Funding Notes

For an EU student, the stipend is from £12,500 to £15,000 per annum for three years. For an overseas student, the stipend is £9,500 per annum.
