Dr. Peter Jarvis – Senior Lecturer in Water Science
Dr Irene Carra –Research Fellow in Water Science

This studentship will provide a bursary of £19,000. (tax free) plus fees* for four years.

The Cranfield Water Science Institute at Cranfield University is looking for a highly motivated graduate from an engineering or environmental related background to complete a four year EngD at Cranfield working with Anglian Water. This project is part of the STREAM EngD programme, the Industrial Doctorate Centre for the Water Sector (http://www.stream-idc.net/). This is an exciting opportunity for an industrially funded project researching enhancement of drinking water treatment by use of microbubbles.

This project will look at the exciting application of micro- and nano- sized bubbles to change the way we think about treating drinking water by improving mass transfer and changing the characteristics of bubbles. Applicants should have a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent in a related discipline, such as Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering. An MSc degree in a related area is desirable. The ideal candidate would have some understanding of relevant water treatment and technology used in the UK (for example flotation, ozonation and oxidation). The successful candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills for regular interaction with the project stakeholders and have a strong interest in delivering applied industrial research.

You will be working with Anglian Water and the project will be largely based in their extensive pilot plant facilities at a real drinking water treatment site. You will also have access to Cranfield’s state of the art laboratories and facilities, so the ability to drive would be an advantage. We will liaise regularly with the client in face-to-face meetings.
