About the Project

Open PhD position in the University of Leeds (UK)

Research Topic: Alteration of perineuronal net in epilepsy

Perineuronal net (PNN) is an aggregated extracellular matrix structure on the surface of neurons and have been previously demonstrated to be important in controlling synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system, particular on the parvalbumin positive GABAergic interneurons. Here, we aim to study the role of PNN in the development of epilepsy.

The work will be carried out in the multidisciplinary environment of the School of Biomedical Sciences (University of Leeds), which includes biochemists, physiologists and biophysicists. The project will be supervised by Dr Jessica Kwok who has a strong international standing in the field of neuronal plasticity.
