Dr M Parsani  Applications accepted all year round  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

We are inviting applications for a Ph.D. position that is open in the "Computational aero and gas dynamics" research group at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Extreme Computing Research Center. The project, undertaken in collaboration with the research group "Laboratory of Compressible-fluid dynamics for Renewable Energy Applications at Politecnico di Milano" (crealab.polimi.it), Italy, will involve developing and using the next generation of high-order accurate nonlinearly stable (entropy stable) flow solver SSDC for studying real gas effects and nonclassical gas dynamics phenomena in complex laminar and turbulent flows.

Specific interests are developed in environmentally friendly working fluid that exhibits real gas effects such as the reduction of compression shocks. The goal is to develop and use robust massively parallel high-fidelity and high accurate simulation capabilities to uncover complex flow patterns and yield novel physical insights into the structure of dense gas flows for real industrial applications.

The student will learn about cutting-edge high-order/variable-order accurate CFD algorithms for unstructured grids, currently under development at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, NASA Langley, Sandia National Lab, and University of Bergen. Furthermore, the student will learn about novel implementation strategies for targeting the emerging heterogeneous computing hardware.

The successful candidate can carry out part of her/his research activities in Italy with the crealab research group, in the framework of the European Research Grant Consolidator NSHOCK.

The position will remain open until filled. Informal enquires regarding the position can be made to Dr. Matteo Parsani ([Email Address Removed]) and Dr. Alberto Guardone ([Email Address Removed]).
