About the Project

PhD position in Structural Biology of Muscle Proteins

As part of a collaborative effort between the laboratories of Prof. Olga Mayans and Prof. Kay Diederichs at the University of Konstanz, an opening for a PhD student is now available. The successful candidate will join a DFG/SFB-funded research project that aims to understand the molecular mode of action of E3 ubiquitin ligases of biomedical relevance in their induction of muscle atrophy. The work will primarily employ X-ray crystallography in combination with protein engineering and biochemical assays. However, ample opportunity exists to engage in multidisciplinary collaborations that will apply cell-based assays and further biophysical and structural approaches (including NMR spectroscopy). The successful candidate will also become member of the Graduate School in Chemical Biology at the University of Konstanz and will benefit from an excellent offer of postgraduate training.
Interested candidates please visit http://cms.uni-konstanz.de/strucbio/ and http://www.chembiol.uni-konstanz.de/home.html

Candidate requirements: We seek a highly-motivated candidate with a strong interest in the study of structure-function relationships in proteins. Applicants should hold a Master degree in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology or a related discipline. Preliminary experience in a biological laboratory is required, ideally related to the recombinant overproduction of proteins and/or their analysis. Familiarity with X-ray crystallography would be of advantage.

Applications & further information: Applications and informal enquiries must be sent to [Email Address Removed]. Applications should include a letter of motivation, a detailed CV and contact details for two referees.
The position is available now and is fully funded for 4 years. The review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

The University of Konstanz encourages disabled persons to apply. They will be given preference if appropriately qualified (contact + 497531/88–4016 and 88-2834).
