About the Project
The Project
We have seen a considerable shift in how people communicate from face to face to over technology such as skype. Such communications can include business meetings or social and family meetings with isolated elderly relatives. As these interactions are no longer in the same room, this can mean that cues which people rely on communication are lost or more difficult to identify. Such cues could indicate the importance that a speaker attributes to what they are saying or the roles that participants take in group interactions.
The motivation for this proposal is to combine intelligent approaches such as neural and fuzzy logic to recognise the affective state of the participants and from this feedback to the participants in the distant interaction to aid the communication. Such feedback will be in a form that is specific to the individual, easily understandable and can be acted upon by the participants involved. This proposal focuses on fuzzy logic to offer multimodal fusion and overcome ambiguity in the outputs from the neural system to recognize the emotional state of the user and from this offer feedback decisions. There are been research that combines fuzzy logic and neural networks to perform emotion recognition.
