About the Project

Regular exercise is one of the most effective treatment and preventative options for metabolic diseases. Application are invited for a PhD students to work in the field of metabolism at Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, The University of Auckland, New Zealand. This project will investigate the molecular mechanisms through which exercise improves metabolic function and will focus on the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS). While ROS have been historically associated with cell damage and disease, recent evidence suggests that they are also important cellular signalling molecules, being required to facilitate adaptions to metabolic stress (such as exercise) which improve our health. This project will involve human, rodent and cell based models.

The preferred (but not required) applicant will have experience in molecular biology techniques and working with rodent and/or human models.
