Dr F Jurgensen, Prof D Smith  No more applications being accepted  Competition Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Applications are invited for doctoral research involving the study of music and text in the Early Modern period. A project examining the relationships between theoretical currents and compositional practice in text setting, musical structure, musical rhetoric in vocal or instrumental music, performance practice such as ornamentation and improvisation, or intabulation of vocal music is just one example of the sort of project that might be available in this research group. The precise project will be decided upon in consultation with the supervisor.

The School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture has a lively postgraduate community. Postgraduate students are offered a comprehensive programme of research skills training.

Funding Notes

This project is funded by a University of Aberdeen Elphinstone Scholarship. An Elphinstone Scholarship covers the cost of tuition fees, whether Home, EU or Overseas.

Selection will be made on the basis of academic merit. For information about English-language requirements, see https://www.abdn.ac.uk/study/international/english-requirements.php
