About the Project

Over a century of critical work on the work of Marcel Proust now exists, and fresh perspectives on his work continue to emerge. The role of the visual in À la recherche du temps perdu has undergone revision in recent years, and socio-historical and sociological readings of his work have also clarified the importance of his work in documenting the cultural landscape of late-nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Paris. Research projects with a focus on visual culture and/or on the appropriation by Proust of modern technological developments are particularly welcome. This is just one example of the sort of project that might be available in this research group. The precise project will be decided upon in consultation with the supervisor.

The School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture has a lively postgraduate community. Postgraduate students are offered a comprehensive programme of research skills training.
