Dr W Price, Prof A Lumsden  No more applications being accepted  Competition Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

Much recent attention has focused on the idea of wild places and the ways in which landscape and our human relationship to it can be renegotiated in a post-Romantic context and in the recognition of the responsibilities we hold towards the planet in the context of ecological crisis. Scottish and Australian writing has much to contribute to this conversation and the Universities of Aberdeen and Curtin, which are situated close to areas of unique wilderness environments, are ideal locations in which to consider it. Proposals are invited from those who wish to explore the idea of ’wild places’ in the context of Scottish and/or Australian writing.

The projects will be jointly supervised by staff from the University of Aberdeen and Curtin University. In the first instance applicants should contact Dr Wayne Price ([Email Address Removed])

Funding Notes

. Successful applicants will be awarded a fee waiver and a living stipend of c.£15,000 per annum (RCUK rates) for three years. Candidates must be willing and able to spend the second year of their supervised period in Australia at Curtin University (failure to fulfil this requirement will result in termination of the joint PhD). Limited travel costs for one return journey for that year to / from Australia will also be provided. One scholarship is available commencing January 2017.
