Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
Objectives
•To describe the role of the innate cytosolic sensing systems in host defense against herpesvirus capsids.
•To identify cell-type specific cytosolic host factors interacting with HSV-1 or VZV capsids.
•To identify structural HSV1 proteins interacting with these cytosolic host factors.
•To characterize the role of these factors in restricting lytic HSV-1 or VZV infection.
Expected achievements
•Set-up in vitro systems to identify host factors specifically interacting wit HSV1 capsids.
•This project will identify cell-type specific host proteins of epithelial, neuronal and immune cells. that specifically interact with incoming capsids and contribute to restricting or enabling HSV-1 and VZV infection.
Planned Secondments
•Max Planck Institute, Munich, Germany; Affinity purification followed by mass spectrometry.
•University of Oxford, UK; Modulation of VZV infections by RNAi against specific host factors.
Requirements
•Excellent background in biochemistry, expertise in cell biology and/or virology would be an asset
•Experience with mass spectrometry would be a strong asset
•Ability to manage large experimental setups and large data sets
