About the Project

Objectives
•To identify early events in cellular sensing of herpesvirus genomic DNA
•To describe how signal transduction stimulated by herpesvirus DNA is initiated in infected cells

Expected achievements
•Identification of molecular events that prime a cell for sensing of herpesvirus DNA
•Full evaluation of the cross-talk between the herpesvirus entry pathway and release of viral DNA to DNA sensors
•Characterization of an interaction between herpesviruses and cellular organelles of importance for activation of the cGAS-STING pathway

Planned Secondments
•Helmholtz-Zentrum For Infection Research, Braunschweig, Germany; Evaluation of results in infections with cytomegalovirus
•JENA Biosciences GmbH, Germany; CLICK-based methods for labelling of viruses and cells

Requirements
•Solid theoretical background/expertise in cell biology and immunology
•Experience with confocal microscopy and biochemistry
•Ability to run a project involving a large number of methods
