Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
Objectives
•Determination of the proviral or antiviral role of cellular proteins induced after HCMV infection
•Detailed characterisation of the mechanism of action of selected antiviral or proviral proteins
Expected achievements
•Set up of a FACS-based assay to determine HCMV growth in cells overexpressing the set of proteins being induced after HCMV infection
•Cell biological and biochemical characterisation of selected anti- or proviral proteins
•Screen for HCMV proteins interacting with pro- or antiviral cellular proteins in the context of infection
•Generation of HCMV mutants lacking the identified HCMV proteins by BAC mutagenesis
•Characterisation of HCMV deletion mutant(s) in vitro
Planned Secondments
•University Medical Center Utrecht, The Netherlands; CRISPR/Cas technology
•Max Planck Institute Munich, Germany; Mass spectrometry
Requirements
•Solid background/expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, virology, and immunology
•Experience with biochemical methods and cloning, ideally in imaging and FACS analysis
•Ability to manage large experimental setups
•Ability to work in a team
