About the Project

Cerebral blood flow regulation is a key predictor of cerebrovascular disease risk in humans. Given that cerebrovascular disease rates differ between men and women across the life span, a better understanding of the role sex hormones have in brain blood flow regulation could have profound implications for effective prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular disease. To date however, mechanistic human studies investigating sex differences in cerebral blood flow regulation are limited.
This project will investigate sex-hormone related differences in cerebrovascular, cardiovascular and thermoregulatory responses to novel conditioning.

To examine this question a range of experimental approaches will be utilized including: imaging of extra- and intra-cranial cerebral arteries, cerebrovascular responsiveness, exercise testing, plus cardiovascular and thermoregulatory measurement techniques.
Applicants should have a strong background in human physiology, excellent practical laboratory skills and excellent interpersonal skills for dealing with healthy volunteers and patients.
