About the Project

Project summary

Road congestion has become a significant problem, especially in areas with new infrastructure developments. An intelligent decision support system will be developed to alleviate this problem.

This exciting interdisciplinary project is in collaboration with Liverpool John Moore University. The supervisory team consists of experts in the areas of Computer Science, Transport, and Engineering.

Project aims and objectives

This project aims to develop a decision-support system for congestion control/mitigation. The objectives include:
•To collect traffic data.
•To develop a new traffic pattern model for congestion prediction.
•Based on 1 and 2, to develop a new decision-support system for efficient road congestion control/management (e.g. dynamic-routing and maintenance-scheduling).
•To test and evaluate the system.

Specific requirements of the project

The candidate is expected to possess the following academic qualifications and skills.
1.1st or 2:1 honours degree in related areas (Computer Science, Engineering) or MSc. degree ( Merit).
2.Excellent analytical skills/Pattern recognition/programming skills.
3.Experience in working on transportation problems(e.g.transport and logistics modelling, simulation and optimisation).
4.Good team working skills.
5.Experience of having worked with industrial partners is desirable.
6.Due to the nature of this interdisciplinary project, the willingness of traveling occasionally to work with the project supervisory team in Liverpool John Moore University is essential.

Funding Notes

The successful candidate will receive an annual stipend of £14, 296 and home/EU fees will be paid by the University.

Please note that CVs are not accepted and candidates must complete the application form (available on the applications link)
