About the Project

Sponsored by Lufthansa Technics, this studentship will provide the fees* for three years

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Centre for Propulsion Engineering, Cranfield University, in the field of gas turbine engine life consumption. The research is in collaboration with Lufthansa technics. The project will focus on the gas turbine engine life consumption and particularly at the hot part of the engine including the effects of oxidation on the thermal barrier coating (TBC).
The successful candidate must be able to integrate the detailed knowledge of different specialists and try to combine the effects/outputs of several aspects including mission profile, operational aspects, engine design and performance on the damage taking place and how this can affect the maintenance actions.

Entry requirements:
Applicants should have or expect to gain a UK 1st or upper 2nd class degree or equivalent in aeronautical or mechanical engineering.
An MSc or experience in materials science, thermodynamics, fatigue and fracture, gas turbine technology, and computer programming skills will be an advantage.
