About the Project

The function of any nervous system depends on the coordination of supply, use, and recycling of neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are small organic molecules that act on large complicated ion channels.

A number of membrane-bound proteins contribute to the recycling of neurotransmitters such as glycine and we have only limited information on how this happens. The project is designed to address this paucity of structural data by purifying and characterising important transporters.
