About the Project
The school of Computing Science and Digital Media (CSDM) at Robert Gordon University is offering a fully funded PhD studentship in the area of Machine Vision, in particular 2D imaging, and video analysis. The studentship will cover tuition fees and a living allowance for three years.
State-of the art techniques in machine vision and data analytics areas are of particular interest to our school. The studentships will run for three years.
The main research theme will focus on the detection, tracking and classification of human actions from video footages. The domain of the research topic will be either sports activities (i.e. human performance analysis in sports activities) or in the area of gesture analysis.
Applicants must have good first degree (first class or upper second) in computer science or strongly related field preferably in the area of machine vision, image processing, or machine leaning. He/she must also have strong programming skills in C, C++ , Java, or Python. Strong technical knowledge of image processing, machine learning, deep learning or similar subject is highly desirable.
The successful candidate will work with the supervision team and will:
Undertake thorough literature review in the research topic
Create experimental framework to test and evaluate methods proposed
Write and disseminate results to high impact journals and relevant conferences
Maintain an up-to-date project plan and provide a regular progress reports
Collaborate with other research students and staff member at the school
Any other duties that may be reasonable, assigned by the supervision’s team
