Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)
About the Project
This project has previously been advertised, previous applicants are welcome to re-apply.
A stipend of £15,000 per annum is offered to a strong candidate for this full-time PhD studentship in the School of Social Sciences, Business and Law at Teesside University.
Training load monitoring is now widely adopted in team sports and recent work shows that differential ratings of perceived exertion (dRPE) provide a sensitive evaluation of the physical demands associated with team-sport matches and training (Weston et al., 2015; McLaren et al., 2016). However, the real-world effectiveness of dRPE as a measure of training load prescription and evaluation has yet to be fully understood. For example, the increased number of data collection points associated with dRPE requires more time for interpretation and feedback when compared to traditional measures. By exploiting new mobile and cloud-based technologies to support the process, this programme of research aims to investigate how dRPE can be successfully implemented into the daily working practices of those responsible for the prescription and monitoring of team-sport training loads. This project is fulltime and based at Teesside University’s Middlesbrough campus although some travel may be required to a range of sporting clubs. This post will be suitable for someone with a background in Sport and Exercise.
As a Teesside University research student, you will join a growing and dynamic research community, allowing you to share your experiences, insight and inspiration with fellow researchers. You will benefit from our academic expertise, and be supported through a strong programme of research training. You will be offered opportunities and support at each stage of your research degree. The successful candidate will be based within our Social Futures Institute.
The supervisory team will be Dr Matthew Weston, Prof Iain Spears, Matt Portas.
Applicants should hold a good honours degree (first or upper 2:1) or NARIC approved equivalent and hold a Master level qualification in a sport science discipline.
