A fully funded PhD studentship by the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is available in Dr Xuan Li’s group in the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge. Applications are invited from exceptionally high calibre students (Minimum entry 2:1).
Dr Xuan Li’s group is interested in how the regulation of innate immunity is involved in mediating inflammation during cardiovascular disease development. The focus of this PhD student project is the development of a NLRP3 pathway inhibitor and investigation of its inhibitory mechanism in the experimental model of atherosclerosis. The study will allow the PhD candidate to develop both in vitro and in vivo work to learn a variety of transferrable and scientific skills including basic molecular and cellular biology, western blot analysis, flow cytometry, ELISA, immunocytochemistry/ immunohistochemistry, and cutting edge imaging methodology.
The studentship will run for 3 years and includes:
-A fee waiver equivalent to the home/EU rate. Overseas students may apply but will need to fund the difference between the Home and Overseas fee from another source.
-A full stipend from £19,919 to £23,298 PA for 3 years.
