About the Project

Contemporary patterns of food production and consumption’s embeddedness in a globalized neoliberal capitalist economy results in an unequal distribution of the ‘joys’ and ‘costs’ that such production models have in cultural, social, environmental, and economic terms. This studentship investigates the tensions between Western consumption of global food products and the impacts of these consumption patterns and preferences on the inhabitants, environments, and workers of source countries. The multidisciplinary research will be grounded in an environmental justice discourse that may draw on green criminology, cultural criminology, political ecology, development studies and other critical disciplines.
