Project description:
This PhD will be undertaken in close collaboration with the Cardiology Department in Beacon Hospital, Dublin, who will provide access to health professionals, patients and patient data. This is one of three ECME PhDs based at UCD, each focused on a key pillar of our research programme: Understanding, Intervening, and Data Management/Mining Infrastructure. Each pillar will be managed by one PhD student. The successful candidate will work closely with other students as part of an overall team investigating the role of patient generated data in driving a better understanding of heart failure, as well as enabling patient centres personalised interventions.
This project will focus on the Intervening pillar of our programme. It involves the design, development and evaluation of mobile applications that embody differing theoretical approaches to behaviour change and coaching. The key aim is to develop an adaptive platform that addresses physical and mental wellbeing and provides personalised support for patients with cardiac conditions. The apps will take advantage of active and passive data collection and will be developed using a user-centred design methodology, involving close collaborations with end users.
