About the Project

Obesity is now at epidemic levels in the developed world and has chronic effects on health and ageing. This is a major burden on healthcare systems. A greater understanding of obesity is urgently required in order to develop new therapeutic strategies. Our recent research has uncovered an important new mouse model of obesity. This model has a mutation disrupting a single intracellular protein and gains excessive weight rapidly. The aims of this project will be to understand the mechanisms involved in the increased weight gain in this mouse model and, through gaining an understanding of the mechanisms, determine new therapeutic approaches.
