About the Project
A PhD position related to the EU COST project “A new Network of European BioImage Analysts to advance life science imaging (NEUBIAS, http://neubias.org/)” is available at the Centre for Biomedical Image Analysis (CBIA), which is a research division of the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. Brno is the second largest Czech city with a rich history, splendid surroundings, several universities and several scientific parks, sometimes called Silicon Valley of the Central Europe. Masaryk University is the largest university in Brno with over 30,000 students and the second largest in the Czech Republic. Faculty of Informatics is the oldest and leading academic centre for education and research in computer science in the Czech Republic with over 2,000 students.
The focus of CBIA is the development and validation of novel methods in a broad range of biomedical imaging applications with emphasis on cell imaging using optical microscopy. Currently the group consists of about 20 people including researchers, PhD students and technicians. CBIA has close collaboration with biological and clinical partners as well as other universities world-wide. CBIA was one of the co-organizers of the Cell Tracking Challenge, associated with the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI) (ISBI 2013, 2014, and 2015). See http://www.codesolorzano.com/celltrackingchallenge/ for more info.
The project itself is focused on the design and development of benchmarks for the validation and performance evaluation of available segmentation and tracking methods suitable for images and videos of cells obtained using various types of microscopy. The successful candidate is supposed to participate on research in the area of cell segmentation and tracking by improving the international benchmarks established in the frame of Cell Tracking Challenge and comparing available methods using such benchmarks. It includes the research work, writing scientific publications, and attending international conferences.
The project duration is till May 2020. The position is open immediately until filled with a successful candidate.
