About the Project

China has established numerous film co-production treaties with a range of national film industries. This PhD will consider China’s film co-production treaties as a network of strategic alliances, and interrogate where the lines of diplomatic, artistic and economic interests lie for the Chinese State in signing these co-production treaties. As these treaties take place within China’s developing media broadcasting initiatives across the globe, the project has the potential to consider these treaties within China’s broader global media broadcasting initiatives. It is expected that applicants for this project will have a strong grasp of spoken and written English and Mandarin Chinese, although English will be the language of articulation. The PhD candidate will also be expected to provide teaching assistance in the Chinese Communications and Chinese Cinema modules at XJTLU.
