About the Project

At Bournemouth University our vision is to create a stimulating, challenging and rewarding university experience in a world-class learning community, through sharing a unique fusion of education, research and professional practice and inspiring our students and staff to enrich the world.

The Department of Design & Engineering, within the Faculty of Science and Technology, has several successful, accredited undergraduate and postgraduate courses in design and engineering. The laboratory and workshop facilities are being relocated in the coming academic year, with significant investment in upgrading equipment and the provision of new engineering research laboratories.
The department’s NanoCorr, Energy and Modelling (NCEM) Research team led by Professor Zulfiqar Khan is a community of Academics, Post-Doctoral and Postgraduate Researchers with a proven track record of internationally excellent (REF14) applied research in a number of areas such as nano coating, corrosion, clean energy technologies and tribology in collaboration with Schaeffler, Ministry of Defence UK, The Tank Museum at Bovington, Future Energy Source Limited, National University of Sciences & Technology Pakistan for example.

Due to the growth in engineering in the department, we are seeking to recruit one PhD student within the NCEM team.
This PhD project is match funded by BU and Schaeffler. The Schaeffler Group is a global integrated automotive and industrial supplier. Highest quality, outstanding technology, and strong innovative ability represent the basis for the Schaeffler Group’s lasting success. INA Bearing Company Ltd and FAG Sales Europe-UK have now joined forces under the new name of Schaeffler (UK) Ltd.
