About the Project

Aston Medical School (AMS) is located in the center of Birmingham and houses the University-wide Aston Medical Research Institute (AMRI). The School’s overarching vision is to deliver scientific discoveries in Translational Medicine landscape. AMRI’s research is focused on Maternal Health, Cardiovascular Medicine, Mental Health and Regenerative Medicine. The institute provides an excellent training and multi-disciplinary environment for translational research that transforms lives, addresses local health challenges with global impact.

An Aston University 50th Anniversary Prize PhD Studentship is on offer to hungry and driven outstanding students from UK and EU countries. These studentships offer postgraduate research students to undertake a medical science research and training and work with leading and experienced researchers to gain experience in molecular biology, transgenic models and patient-based studies.

Financial SupportThe PhD studentships comprise of the current RCUK tax-free stipend of £14,296 p.a. and payment of Home/EU tuition fees only. The studentship is available for three years, subject to satisfactory progress review at the end of the first year with an anticipated Registration date April 2017.
Application RequirementsApplicants must be of outstanding academic merit and research potential.

Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a UK first class or 2:1 honours degree at undergraduate level or the international equivalent or a MSc with distinction in the area of biomedical sciences.

EU Applicants will need to demonstrate adequate proficiency in English Language skills, with a minimum overall score of 93 (Internet Based) (with a minimum score in each section of: R: 18, W: 23, L: 19 and S: 19) in TOEFL or IELTS with minimum marks of 6.0 in each section and an overall band of 6.5.
