About the Project

We are looking for a PhD candidate with a background in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering to conduct experimental studies exploring the use of the Advanced Blast Simulator (ABS) technology for generating airblast that mimic the temporal and spatial characteristics of blast waves and to investigate the blast wave-structure interactions in the simulated blast environments. The ABS will also be used for assessment of dynamic behaviour of critical elements of infrastructure and development of innovative blast retrofitting techniques.

The successful applicants are expected to hold at least an Honours 1 (or equivalent) first degree in Engineering. A Masters degree in a relevant subject area will be considered as an equivalent. The Masters must have been attained at Distinction level (75%). For overseas applicants, an IELTS score of 6.5 is required.

Previous experience in structural dynamics, design of blast-resistant structures and numerical modelling (FEA or CFD) of blast-related problems is highly desirable.
