About the Project

This research project provides an exciting opportunity in the area of RF (radio frequency) and HF (high frequency) Instrumentation. The project is a result of a strong industry collaboration with a world-wide leading infrastructure supplier for communication systems.

Huawei, Shanghai, China and Cardiff University cooperate within this project on the investigation of novel measurement systems. The main goal of this project is to investigate measurement systems for RF device/transistor characterization for modulation bandwidths > 1 GHz to facilitate the development of 5G wireless communication components and systems, e.g. RF Power Amplifiers.

The project envisages a significant placement at the Huawei R&D site in Shanghai offering a exciting opportunity combining research with real-world development in a unique environment.

Candidates should hold or expect to gain a first class degree or a good 2.1 and/or an appropriate Master’s level qualification (or their equivalent).

Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the English language (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent)

Start date: July 2017

Funding Notes

Full tuition fees for 3 years - full-time (home or overseas rate) and an annual stipend equivalent to current Research Council rates (approx. £14,296 stipend for academic year 2016/17)
