About the Project

An exciting opportunity to work for your PhD as part of our Supply Chain and Operations research group at WMG, University of Warwick .
Through the Innovate UK project ‘Improving SC Integration in Construction’, Costain and WMG identified strategic planning as a missing portfolio management capability, impacting the efficiency of project execution. This PhD project will develop an advanced data analytics approach to address this gap.

The project has 5 phases:
1) Developing the conceptual framework (literature review)
2) Development of the advanced data analytics approach for identifying and clustering the different
types of projects as part of the portfolio management process across business
3) Simulation of the potential benefits to the efficiency of project delivery (cost, quality, time and
environmental impact) demonstrating the business case for a collaborative approach to
strengthening the relationship with the supply chain
4) Pilot testing within a group of projects and identification of the inhibitors to adoption will provide
valuable operational insights and new knowledge
5) Finalisation of the approach and recommendations for broader implementation
