About the Project

This project is funded at the University of Strathclyde (supervisor for this studentship): Prof John Murphy.


This project arises from recent discoveries of new chemistry in the Murphy group and involves a study of organometallic chemistry to understand where and how reversible cleavage of M-R bonds occurs (R as an organic entity). The project will train the PhD student in organic synthesis and mechanism, giving an excellent preparation for a career in industry or as an academic.
The project will be co-supervised by Prof Tell Tuttle, providing opportunities for training in computational chemistry to underpin the experimental research. Joint training in experimental and computational chemistry will equip PhD students with the skills to conduct forefront international research in chemistry.

This project will provide excellent training and the skills required for a PhD candidate in state-of-the-art chemistry that takes account of sustainable development (i.e. environmental and supply issues). Funding Notes

Funding is provided at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland (www.strath.ac.uk). The student (UK national) will be based in the friendly and attractive city of Glasgow. The duration of funding will be 42 months.
