Ms Bianka Jacobi  No more applications being accepted  Funded PhD Project (Students Worldwide)

About the Project

The international group is interested to decipher the structure and function of chromosomes and genomes. For research details visit: www.ipk-gatersleben.de/en/dept-cytogenetics-and-genome-analysis/chromosome-structure-and-function/ or www.facebook.com/CSF1Houben/ .

Your tasks:

• Elucidating how the genome is spatio-temporally organised inside the nucleus is imperative to understand the regulation of genes and non-coding sequences during development.
• Emerging techniques of chromatin imaging promise to bridge the long-standing gap between sequencing studies disclosing genomic information and imaging studies providing spatial and temporal information.
• The DFG funded project aims to harness the CRISPR-Cas9 system to develop a pioneering tool to visualize defined genomic loci in living cells of eudicot and monocot plants.

Your qualifications and skills:

• You have a master, diploma or equivalent degree in biology or any related field.
• Knowledge of molecular, cytological and/or biochemical techniques as well as experience in working with plants (e.g. A. thaliana) are desired.
• You like microscopy.
• Furthermore, solid English skills are a prerequisite for effective work in our multicultural environment.

You fit to us:

• You are a highly motivated person.
• You can organize your work independently.
• You should have demonstrated capacity to master the broad skill set necessary for the successful completion of a research project.
• You are a team player.

We offer you:

• The opportunity to work in a modern research centre with state of the art facilities and scientists from all over the world.
• Collegial working atmosphere.
• An employment starting up on July, 1st 2017 and is limited for 36 months.
• Gross salary will be up to 65% E13 TV-L.
For further information please contact Prof Dr Andreas Houben: houben@ipk-gatersleben or phone +49 (0)39482 5486.

What you need to know:

The IPK is striving to increase the proportion of women in sectors where they are underrepresented, and therefore explicitly encourages applications from qualified women. Everyone - independent from gender, sexual orientation, age, origin or a possible disability - is welcome. The IPK was awarded the Hertie Foundation’s work and balance certificate ("berufundfamilie") for its family-friendly working conditions. The IPK campus is located in the immediate vicinity of a local day care center and primary school (Grundschule).

Your application:

Please send your application (incl. CV, letter of motivation and certificates of university degrees) until June 02nd, 2017 to the attention of Mr. Danielowski ([Email Address Removed]) citing the reference number 30/05/17. Please contact him also for questions regarding the application and selection procedure. You can reach him by telephone +49 (0)39482 5741.
