About the Project

Title: Disciplined Innovation Process Project, School of Marketing, DIT

This is a fully funded PhD. Applications can be accepted via the DIT website only. Please go to http://www.dit.ie/researchandenterprise/graduateresearchschool/phdopportunities/phdprojects/business/ for further details and applicaiton.

This research project aims to develop a ‘disciplined innovation process model ‘which can help increase the rate of new venture success – particularly in incubation and corporate environments. The literature in this domain outlines a series of descriptive process models. The proposed models have not been tested, in the main, for their predictive capabilities. This research project proposes the development of a predictive model ‐ following a systematic review of the literature and an extensive data gathering exercise. This
model will then be tested empirically on data provided by the ‘New Frontiers’ programme. This research approach is therefore designed to address the following research questions: Can a disciplined innovation process (DiP) lead to superior outcomes for the entrepreneur, the firm and the state when compared to existing practice and can this process be tested empirically as a predictive model and if found to have superior outcomes to non‐ disciplined innovation, can the model be protected as intellectual property?

The results of this research project will be expected to improve technology venturing outcomes initially for DIT (and New Frontiers Programme) and in Corning Inc.
