About the Project

The objective of Renewable Engine is to facilitate industrial Research & Innovation at PhD level in a local engineering company for the development of new products.

Students will work with an industrial partner located in Glasgow, offering them a unique opportunity to carry out in-depth study and research in commercially-relevant areas. The programme will allow for the joint development of academic knowledge and skills coupled with industrial experience providing students with sought-after skill sets.

Energy and manufacturing are among the fastest growing industries world-wide. Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland are three of the most industrially-active countries in these disciplines resulting in significant opportunity for research and innovation activities to be undertaken in partnership with industry.

Project : Energy Storage & Synchronous Inertial Stability

The project is focused on examining the technical and commercial feasibility of a concept which could provide a range of Zero emission ancillary services.
The design is highly innovative in its application and yet the background physics is well established, (e=mgh). It incorporates existing, off the shelf, components and technologies which will facilitate the increased grid penetration of Renewable Energy sources. The current and future market potential of the concept can be clearly demonstrated in terms of UK and international significance.
