About the Project

Pharmacy as a discipline is progressing forward in the Middle East and emerging economies of Asia. Pharmacists are now moving away from traditional compounding and manufacturing roles to patient facing clinical pharmacy roles in these countries. However, there is a lack of adequate research on the impact of the new roles in patient outcomes, healthcare access, costs as well as around identifying and addressing barriers to advancing clinical pharmacy practice further.

This PhD project will investigate novel roles of pharmacists’ in emerging and developing economies in the Middle East and Asia. The prospective student will have a say in choosing the geographical and clinical area of choice for their research.
The successful candidate will learn and apply advanced research methods in pharmacy practice and health services research. Research methods will include systematic review of literature, qualitative interviews, delphi technique with international experts and cases studies in select clinical areas. It is expected that the results generated by the PhD candidate will be of high quality to merit peer-reviewed publications in high impact journals. The student will have opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team of supervisors and advisors.
